AP® Chemistry OnlineOur AP® Chemistry on-line course is a rigorous first-year college course designed to prepare students for the AP Chemistry Exam. The 2007 College Board AP Chemistry course description and standards can be found at the College Board AP site (pdf file). This course is not just an exam review or prep! It is a comprehensive, College Board audited and approved course. We follow the College Board syllabus for AP Chemistry and use a College Board recommended college text. It is taught by a caring and knowledgeable teacher who will guide you through your lessons and answer your questions. It has a college level hands-on lab which is an integral part of the course. The course includes daily assignments, custom study sheets, specific material from the text, written free response questions graded by the teacher and weekly lab work as required by college board standards. In conjunction with the assignments in this course, you will use an online, interactive homework and test program. This customized learning environment provides a rich, unique learning experience. Short answer, numeric and multiple-choice questions are immediately graded to provide instant feedback. Students know right away if they've done a problem incorrectly and can correct it for resubmission. Essay questions and labs are graded by the teacher. While a student is working on a problem, he/she can ask questions using the online "Ask Your Teacher" help desk. Incorporated in the program is a complete communication suite. Students can interact with one another and the teacher in a safe, monitored, closed environment. Over 250 universities, colleges and academies use this interactive web assignment program -- including California-Berkeley, Chapel Hill, Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgetown, Rensselaer Polytechnic, Rutgers, Texas A&M, United States Air Force and United States Military and Naval Academies. Students find the program to be a great way to learn. Testimonials to the program:
"[the assignments] get me focused on chemistry
and don't allow me to slack off." A hands-on lab is an integral part of this course. You will perform labs and produce a comprehensive lab notebook which is an AP and college requirement. The lab fee includes the use of a digital balance, digital laboratory thermometer and molecular modeling kit along with labware and chemicals needed to perform the experiments. The lab work will be quantitative and qualitative and is college level. Students will be expected to work with and store the chemicals and equipment used in the labs in a safe and responsible manner. Some colleges will not grant AP credit if the science course does not have a hands-on lab. Student grades will be available from a secure, on-line grade book to give students and parents an up-to-date view of progress. When you have completed this course in May, you will have learned college level chemistry, prepared for the AP Chemistry exam and experienced first-hand the joy that is chemistry.
